Here are Robert Bryant Wynn and his wife, Hattie Lee Baldwin-Wynn with the first six of their children. They were "share-croppers" in Southern Georgia. While this was a far from glamorous profession involving hard physical labor it was honest work and it is what was available in that area in that time. They were poor, but proud people who understood the time proven virtures of honor, self-reliance, education, family unity, faith and hard work.
Robert didn't have much formal education but could read, write and do math. He had amazing insight to Human nature and possessed the rare blend of humor, razor-sharp wit and that steely determination necessary to survive hard times.
He was well respected by friends and neighbors who often sought
his advice. His word was accepted by many as "the final authority". He was
known for talking in short phrases and monosyllables but those who knew him understood
that he meant what he said. My Father told me of how my "'Grandpa" also
packed his loaded Winchester `98 under his wagon seat when he took the family to church.
When asked "Why you carry a gun to church Mr. Rob?" he'd reply, "A man
ought be ready for what might happen". Eye-witnesses have given me accounts of
him hunting rabbits with that same
large bore rifle and taking them with "head-shots" so as not to waste the
meat.
