Leroy Roscoe Wynn (1915 - 1996)
with his wife Levera Pearson-Wynn
Leroy Roscoe Wynn was the 5th child of Robert Bryant and Hattie Baldwin-Wynn
I have heard two stories of how e got the nick-name "Square". the 1st was that he nick-named "Square-Deal" because everyone who knew him knew that in a business deal with him it would be a win - win situation and they'd always get a "square deal". It was shortened to "Square-D" then later ... simply "Square".
The second says that one of his brothers saw him coming out of the shower and commented that his behind was square... and the rest is history.
All of us who knew him could immediately sense his honesty, sincerity and dedication. No one could have possibly had a stronger sense of family unity. This spirit overflowed to encompass his community. From the cannery in Georgetown, GA that was built under his leadership in 1940's to his seat on the Huntersville Town Board of Commissioners in 1991 (the first Black person ever to serve) Leroy was an advocate for the good of the entire community.
