James David (DJ) and his wife Vashti (Vikki) Wynn
1979

James David Wynn was the first born of Robert Bryant & Hattie Baldwin-Wynn. He was known to everyone as "D. J."  Everyone who knew him remembers his quick wit and unparalleled sense of humor. No one could tell a story or make you laugh like he could, under even the most adverse of conditions. An accident involving a mule and bailing wire resulted in the loss of about half an inch of the first joint of his right index finger. The nail grew back on the stub looking much like a talon. D.J. would dip that fingernail in ink as if it were a quill pen and use it to write with.  The mere mention of his name to a relative or close friend today will most likely fetch a smile and a flood of very fond memories.

Those who knew him well also knew the amazing philosophical wisdom that he posessed, and appreciated his abilities as a leader. In School at Ft. Valley, several students would do his chores along with their own so that he could attend the lectures. Then at night he would recite the lectures, verbatim, for those in the "work - study" programs.   He organized the first NAACP chapter in Worth County, GA and helped lead the drive for voter registration.  He was instrumental in getting the first bus for blacks in the county. These were not minor accomplishments in Southern Georgia in the 1920's 30's and 40's.

D. J. married Eletha Morton, Eletha died during the birth to their only child, a Son, Elliot Delano Wynn.

D. J. relocated to Atlanta in the 1950's where he married Vashti Henry-Wynn.
